The Congress appointed Arvinder Singh Lovely as the president of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday. All India Congress Committee’s president K.C. Venugopal issued a press release confirming the appointment. Party appreciated the contribution of outgoing president Anil Chaudhary. The appointment comes at a crucial time when the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have come together under the INDIA block in the run-up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier, Arvinder Singh Lovely has served as the Delhi Congress president and as the Urban Development and Education Minister between 2003 and 2013 in the Sheila Dixit’s government and a four time MLA from the Gandhi Nagar constituency. He had left the Congress for a year and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in May 2017, but returned to the Congress in 2018.
In Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress are the part of The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). There is speculation that they might contest in the elections for all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, following a seat-sharing arrangement decided upon by the INDIA coalition.
