The chief ministers office confirmed that Maharashtra Cabinet sub-committee on Maratha Reservation is slated to take place on Monday at 12 pm. According to the sources, the chief minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde is also to take part in the meeting.Notably, the meeting is taking place after a clash broke out between police and protesters demanding reservation for the Marathas in Jalna on Friday. Police had to recourse to lathi charges to scatter the protesters. Following which, the chief minister Shinde on Saturday announced that state government was committed to providing reservations to the Maratha community.Speaking at Jalna incident, the chief minister said, “The incident of baton charge in Jalna is unfortunate and caused grief. But those who strangled the Marathas are now cutting their throats for them. After the Jalna incident, the Superintendent of Police has been sent on compulsory leave and it has been decided to send both the Deputy Superintendents out of the district. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Saxena said that the incident will be investigated. However, Supreme Court said that the Maratha quota law was unconstitutional. Meanwhile, the top court also said that keeping reservations for the Maratha community may violated Article 14 (right to equality) 21 (due process of delay).
