Update (October 4, 2:12 PM): According to the latest update, NDRF rescued 7 persons from Sikkim’s Singtam where a cloudburst caused a flood-like situation. NDRF’s one team is deployed at Gangtok and two teams at adjoining areas of Sikkim in West Bengal.


A cloud burst in North Sikkim has initiated an alert sending shockwaves across the northeastern state. According to the sources, a flash flood occurred in Teesta River in Lachen Valley. At least 23 personnels have been reported missing and some vehicles are also reported to be submerged under the slush.

Flood-like situation arouse in Singtam after cloud burst.

As per Defence PRO, Guwahati, “Due to a sudden cloud burst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim, a flash flood occurred in Teesta River in Lachen Valley. Some army establishments along the valley have been affected and efforts are on to confirm details. 23 personnel have been reported missing and some vehicles are reported submerged under the slush. Search operations are underway.”

Search and rescue operations are on.

Meanwhile, IMD has also issued an alert for moderate rains in Namchi (South Sikkim) and Namthang (South Sikkim) for the next 3-4 days in the state.
