In a grand ceremony held in Raipur, former Union Minister and tribal leader Vishnu Deo Sai took the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. The prestigious event saw the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, senior BJP leaders, and chief ministers from various states.

Oath Ceremony Highlights

Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan administered the oath of office to Vishnu Deo Sai at the Science College grounds in Raipur. The ceremony also witnessed the swearing-in of Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Sharma and Arun Sao.

Dignitaries in Attendance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and other esteemed party leaders graced the occasion with their presence. Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was also present, adding to the significance of the swearing-in ceremony.

Background and Political Journey

Vishnu Deo Sai's appointment as the Chief Minister was announced after a crucial meeting of the BJP's newly-elected 54 MLAs in Chhattisgarh. He secured victory in the Kunkuri Assembly seat with an impressive 87,604 votes.

A prominent figure in the BJP, Sai has held various significant positions, including the former state chief and former union minister. Coming from the influential Sahu (Teli) community, he has a considerable presence in the Durg, Raipur, and Bilaspur divisions. Sai served as the State President of the BJP in Chhattisgarh from 2020 to 2022 and was the Union Minister of State for Mines and Steel in the first cabinet of Prime Minister Modi.

Highly regarded among tribal voters, Vishnu Deo Sai initiated his political career as a village sarpanch. His political journey includes being elected as a 'panch' of Bagia village panchayat in 1989, followed by becoming the unopposed sarpanch the next year.

Transitioning from a village sarpanch to the Union Minister of State for steel, Sai achieved significant milestones. Winning four consecutive Lok Sabha elections from the Raigarh constituency from 1999 to 2014, he emerged as a stalwart leader. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Sai was not given a ticket.

Out of the 90 assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh, the BJP secured an impressive victory by bagging 54 seats, while the Congress won 35. The swearing-in ceremony marked a momentous occasion for the political landscape of Chhattisgarh.
