Bemetara, Chhattisgarh: Rahul Gandhi, a prominent figure in the Indian National Congress, declared a groundbreaking commitment during a public rally in Chhattisgarh's Bemetara district.

He asserted that upon the formation of their government in Delhi, the inaugural signature would endorse the long-debated caste census.

Revolutionary Decision Post-Independence

Gandhi emphasised the monumental significance of this move, labelling it as "the most revolutionary decision after independence." He addressed the critical need to recognise and empower the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the country, countering the narrative that denies their existence.

Empowering the Marginalised

In a fervent speech, he stated, "There is only one caste in India, the poor. If debts are forgiven, it will be of farmers, not billionaires." The promise to conduct a comprehensive caste survey aimed at revealing the actual population of OBCs, Dalits, and tribals was reiterated.

Commitment to Women's Welfare and Education

Gandhi outlined other significant pledges for the state, announcing, "Rs 15,000 will be credited to accounts of all women of the state every year by the state government." He applauded the Chhattisgarh government's decision to provide free education from Kindergarten to Postgraduate level, terming it a historic move.

Election Landscape in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan

Chhattisgarh is currently in the midst of assembly elections, with the second phase scheduled for Friday. The Congress, currently in power in both Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, faces a significant electoral challenge. Gandhi's bold promises aim to solidify the party's standing, fostering inclusivity and social justice.

The political landscape in Chhattisgarh witnessed the Congress securing 68 out of 90 seats in the previous election, while the BJP trailed with 15. In Rajasthan, the Congress formed the government with 99 seats, supported by the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Independents, while the BJP secured 73 seats.

Rahul Gandhi's commitment to a caste census reflects a vision for a more inclusive and equitable India, placing the concerns of the marginalised at the forefront of governance.
