Chhattisgarh: Vishnu Deo Sai to take oath as CM on December 13, PM Modi and Shah to attend

Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Vishnu Deo Sai and his council of ministers will take oath on December 13 in Raipur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President and other eminent personalities are expected to attend the sworn in ceremony.

The former Union Minster emerged as the dark horse of the week-long suspense over the new chief minster face. Being a tribal face in the state, Vishnu Deo Sai had a certain edge over the other chief ministerail candidate. 

Political conundrum in Chhattisgarh 

Earlier on Sunday, former Chhattisgarh CM and BJP leader Raman Singh announced the name of Vishnu Deo Sai as the new CM of the state. The announcement came after a key meeting in Raipur, with the newly elected 54 MLAs of the BJP.

Sai won the Kunkuri Assembly seat with 87,604 votes. He is a prominent figure in the BJP as he held various key positions, including former state chief and former union minister. He served as State President of BJP for Chhattisgarh from 2020 until 2022. He also served as a Union Minister of State for Mines, and Steel in the first PM Modi cabinet. 

The 59-year-old hails from the influential Sahu (Teli) community which has a remarkable presence in the province. 

A glimpse of Vishnu Deo Sai's political journey 

Sai started his political career as a sarpanch. He was elected as a 'panch' of Bagia village panchayat in 1989, and the next year became the sarpanch unopposed.

Later on, in 1998, he participated in assembly polls and lost from from Pathalgaon seat. However, Vishnu Deo won four Lok Sabha elections from the Raigarh constituency from 1999 to 2014. However, the party refused to give him a ticket in the 2014 Assembly polls.
