Bhupesh Baghel writes to PM, seeks ban on betting apps amid Mahadev row

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging to ban all platforms linked to the illegal business of online betting on Friday. He urged to ban all APKs, Telegram channels, Instagram accounts, and URLs.

Baghel wrote in a two-page letter that addressed the prime minister, "A complete ban should be imposed on the platforms, web, APK, Telegram, Instagram, URL, etc. related to the illegal business of online betting."

Chhattisgarh CM also shared a post on microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter), "By writing a letter to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, I demanded a complete ban on the platforms, web, APK, Telegram, Instagram, URL related to the illegal business of online betting."

The post added, "In the past, illegal gambling and betting business has expanded nationwide through online betting and gaming and its operators and owners have been running the said illegal business from abroad."

BJP releases video as proof

Weeks after it was claimed that Baghel had collected ₹508 crore from the UAE-based creators of the 'Mahadev' app. A video featuring a guy claiming to be the proprietor of the Mahadev app was released by BJP as 'proof'.

The Mahadev Book Online Betting app syndicate is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The app's marketers are reportedly using their international friends and accomplices to run hundreds of panels around India.
