In the capital city of Chhatisgarh’s Raipur, two sisters were raped by ten men while they were returning home after celebrating Raksha Bandhan in Mahasamund district with a male friend. The police said they have arrested all the ten accused in the case, including the son of a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader on Friday.

According to the police out of the ten accused already had five criminal charges against him and had been released on bail just three weeks ago in another rape case.

This heinous incident took place on Thursday night near the Mandir Hasaud area of Raipur. The two sisters aged 19 and 16 were returning home after celebrating Rakshabandhan in the Mahasamund district with a male friend when three of the accused men blocked their way in a village in the Mandir Hasaud area.

The three accused first robbed them of cash and mobile phones when seven more reached the spot on four motorcycles. The accused then took the two girls to an isolated place away from the main road and allegedly took turns raping them.

What have police said about this incident?

Raipur senior superintendent of Police (SSP) Prashant Agarwal spoke about this incident in an interview and described how the crime unfolded.

“According to the complaint, the three accused robbed them of cash and mobile phones. Meanwhile, the other seven accused reached the spot on four motorcycles. The accused took the two sisters to an isolated place away from the main road and allegedly raped them. Their friend was assaulted and threatened at knife-point,” said SSP Prashant Agarwal.

Assistant superintendent of police (ASP) (rural), Raipur, Neeraj Chandrakar, also said that after the accused fled the scene the victims somehow reached a local police patrol unit, from where they were brought to the police station.

“A case was registered, and multiple police teams were constituted, and as per the description of the accused provided by the three and other information, all ten accused were identified and arrested by morning,” the ASP added.
