The Congress announced the second list of 53 candidates for the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections on Wednesday. The polls for the 90-member Assembly are due to be held in November in two phases.

The ruling party in Chhattisgarh has decided to field Arun Vora, who is the son of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Motilal Vora. He will be contesting from Durg City. Chhaya Verma, who is a former member of the upper house has been given a ticket from the Dharsiwa constituency. The grand old party has shown faith in both of the candidates handing the tickets again.

Moreover, Mahant Ram Sundar Das will be contesting in the Raipur South City Assembly seat against BJP senior campaigner Brijmohan Agrawal.

Election in two phases

The first phase of elections for 20 seats will be held on November 7, and the second phase will be held on November 17 for the remaining 70 seats.

The grand old party has released the list of 53 candidates today, amongst which Congress has given tickets to Gulab Singh Kamro from Bharatpur-Sonhat constituency, Purshottam Kanwar from Katghora, and Ramesh Singh from Manendragarh.

CM Bhupesh Baghel to contest from Patan

Earlier in the week, Congress released the first list of 30 candidates, fielding Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel from Patan and Deputy CM TS Singh Deo from Ambikapur.

The elections are to be held in five states, including Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Telangana. Polling in Chhattisgarh will be held in two phases. The Model Code of Conduct has come into force after the announcement of poll dates.

The counting of votes will take place in all the states on December 3.
