Chhattisgarh Assembly Polls: BJP leader murdered by Maoists before election

Maoists had released a press note warning people against participating in the elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ratan Dubey was murdered by Maoists in Narayanpur district on Saturday. This came as the first phase of polling in Chhattisgarh is scheduled on 7 November. Ratan Dubey was the vice-president of the BJP's Narayanpur district unit .The incident took place in the Kaushalnar area of the district. 

Bastar Range IG Sundarraj P confirmed that the BJP member was murdered with an axe and a team has been dispatched on the spot to investigate the murder. Earlier, Maoists had released a press note warning people against participating in the elections.

Police said Dubey had gone to the Kaushalnar market area to campaign for the BJP and he was murdered. Narayanpur is among the 20 Assembly seats for which elections will be held on November 7.
