The incident took place at national highway near Beltara in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, which has killed three people and four other left injured after a bus rammed into a stationary Hyva truck at round 5 am on Friday morning. Initial reports say that there were 40 people on board, including two BJP functionaries who are reported critical.

According to the information, the victims were from Ambikapur and were on their way to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public speech in Raipur in the afternoon.

The statement by officials says, “Two people were killed and six others injured after a passenger bus met with an accident in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur earlier today. The passengers in the bus were going from Ambikapur to Raipur to attend PM Modi’s meeting. The accident took place in the early hours when the bus had left Ambikapur and reached Beltara.”

The Superintendent of Police said, “Prima facies it appears that either bus driver could not control the over-speeding bus or it could be due to rains also. Investigation is underway.”

The chief minister of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel has expressed grief over the incident and has announced a grant of ₹4 lakh to the families of deceased. Taking it to Twitter, “Expressing grief over the bus accident, the Chief Minister Shri @bhupeshbaghel has announced a grant of ₹4 lakh each to the families of the deceased and has given instructions for proper treatment of the injured.”
