However, the presence of Naxalite activity was felt across the forests of the region. In recent years the activities of the Naxal group have cooled down but every now and then we get to hear about incidents caused by this group of extremists. In 2021, the Naxalites killed 22 security personnel after the two groups got engaged in a gunfight in the Terram jungles along the borders of Bijapur and Sukma districts. Moreover, nine CRPF members were also killed by the Naxals in an IED blast in 2018. They also killed two Chhattisgarh police officials in a gunfight with with Naxals at Bhejji in Sukma in February of the same year. These are just a few instances of the clashes that erupted between the Naxal forces and the Security personnel of that region. Even before the formation of Chhattisgarh in the year 2000, Naxalism has been a major issue of the state.(With ANI inputs)
