The Central government in the latest move has cleared the subsidy which amounts ₹3.25 crore for the residents who installed solar power plants on their rooftops in 2019. Notably, this was on a halt for the last four years.

According to the information, the draft was sent by Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) to the government for clearance. In response to that Chandigarh administration on Monday received a communication saying that the Centre has given nod to the pending subsidy dues for the residents.

It is to be noted here that the officials of CREST failed to make subsidy payments to the residents of the city for installing solar power plants.

As per nodal officials, almost 421 house owners will receive the subsidy by next month. The officials also informed that the subsidy was pending due to some administrative issues at the ministerial level, and according to the rules it should get transferred within a month after making the full payment of the solar plant in the account of the beneficiary, but here the beneficiaries were waiting for it from the long time now.

The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) approved the installation of the rooftop solar power plants on the residential buildings free of cost in January, this year.

Currently, domestic consumers pay ₹2.75 per unit for 0-151 units, ₹4.25 per unit for 151-400 units, and ₹4.65 per unit for over 400 units of electricity usage. According to the guidelines, a minimum of 500 square feet of roof space is a must for the installation of a 5kWp solar plant under the renewable energy services company build, operate, and transfer model.
