The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered a passport scam in Sikkim and West Bengal and is currently conducting searches at 50 locations. The sources claimed that a middleman and a senior superintendent of a PSLK (Passport Seva Laghu Kendra) in Siliguri have been detained.
According to officials, the CBI has filed a case against 24 people, including government employees and private citizens, for allegedly granting passports based on fraudulent documents.
The FIR lists 24 people, including 16 officials, who are accused of giving passports to ineligible people, including non-residents, in exchange for bribes based on falsified paperwork.
According to them, searches were conducted in Gangtok, Siliguri, and other places.
A CBI team received verified information that a particular private person is a member of a network that aids in having passports issued on fraudulent documents with the assistance of government authorities.
