Update (September 29, 01:17 PM): 44 flights cancelled after chaos at Bengaluru airport amid Karnataka bandh.

Amid the ongoing protest over Cauvery water row, at least 44 flights have been cancelled at the Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on Friday. According to the sources, the move has been taken after ‘Karnataka Bandh’ has been called by Kannada Okkuta, a pro-kannada organisation protest against the release of Cauvery River water to neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, the official statement by the airport authorities said the flights were cancelled due to operational reasons and that the passengers were informed about the same. The cancellation includes, 22 arrivals and 22 departures.


All schools and colleges will remain closed on Friday in Mandya and Bengaluru in view of ‘Karnataka Bandh‘ being called by various farmer organisations amid Cauvery water row.

According to Deputy Commissioner, Mandya, Dr Kumar, the decision for closure of school and collages has been taken keeping the situation of law and order. He said on Thursday, “In view of the bandh called by pro-Kannada organisations, farmer unions and several other organisations tomorrow (Friday) regarding Cauvery water issue, Section 144 has been imposed in Mandya district and schools and colleges will remain closed tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Dayanand KA also informed that a holiday has been declared for all schools and colleges in Bengaluru City on Saturday.

“As ‘Karnataka Bandh’ call has been given by various organisations tomorrow, a holiday has been declared for all schools and colleges in Bengaluru City tomorrow (Friday),” official said on Thursday.

Cauvery water row and bandh

Notably, Karnataka has been witnessing massive protests from past few days after Cauvery Regulatory Committee (CWRC) has ordered to release of 3000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu. Many protestors are raising slogans and objecting the same as they claim that Cauvery River belongs to them.

Police detained members of pro-Kannada organisations

Amid ongoing Cauvery Water row, Bengaluru police on Friday detained members of pro-Kannada organisations protesting over the water dispute near Attibele in Karnataka.

Thursday saw a massive restriction, as Tamil Nadu registration vehicles were stopped at the border town of Zuzuvadi in Tamil Nadu. At least 400 plus buses from various districts in Tamil Nadu are stranded in Hosur as police have prevented them from moving ahead. Earlier in the morning Pro Kannada Organization protested at the border and also seen protesting at Hubballi border also.

Meanwhile, police detained members of pro-Kannada organisations, protesting over the Cauvery Water Issue from Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.
