Farmers in Bengaluru have called for bandh against Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) today demanding 5,000 cusecs of water in Tamil Nadu. Another, state-wide bandh has called Friday.

Meanwhile, the sources have claimed, over 200 protestors have been taken into custody for violation prohibitory orders after they tried marching towards Raj Bhawan. Meanwhile, Bengaluru police had given them the permission to protest in the Freedom Park.

Notably, the Bengaluru police informed that the members of the farmers’ association were detained at Mysore Bank Circle in Bengaluru after they staged a protest.

Meanwhile, the deputy chief minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar said, “The Cauvery Water Management Committee meeting is going on and the people of Tamil Nadu have demanded 12,500 cusecs of water. At present, we are in a situation where we cannot even release 5,000 cusecs of water. We will not release that much water because we don’t have.”

It is to be noted here, farmers across Karnataka have been protesting since the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) ordered the state to release 5000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for 15 days, effective from September 13.
