The boy, identified as Shivam Kumar, was playing near the borewell when he fell inside it. The incident was reported to Shivam’s parents by the children playing with him. Shivam’s mother told reporters that she was working in the field when she got information that he son, who was playing near the borewell, fell after his feet suddenly slipped.

As per sources, the borewell was made by a farmer, but despite being unused and incomplete, was not closed, resulting in the accident.

“This borewell was made by the farmer here for boring. But boring didn’t succeed here, so they started boring in another place and this borewell was not closed,” said Nalin Maurya, Vice President of Nagar Panchayat Nalanda, who is assisting in the rescue operations.

“We received information that a child fell into a borewell. We are trying our best to rescue the child. NDRF and rescue team will be reaching the spot. The child is still alive, we can hear his voice,” Silwa Circle Officer Shambhu Mandal said.

Nalanda public relations officer (DPRO) said that the operations are being supervised by officials from the district disaster management branch, led by Krishna Kumar Upadhyay. The area has been cordoned off to prevent any hindrance to the rescue work.

The rescue operations are being provided advanced equipment and have at their disposal the expertise from the NDRF and SDRF teams that were promptly dispatched from Patna.

The rescue operations are also being assisted by local residents of the area. The child is being provided oxygen by JCB machines, which are also working to extract him from the borewell.

Police Station In-charge Dinesh Kumar Singh told reporters that senior officers have been informed about the incident and many officials of Parsottam have reached the spot to assist in the efforts to save the child.
