The northern region of India has been witnessing heavy downpours for a few days. Amid the rainfall, around seven people, including two children were killed in separate incidents of lightning in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun, Etah, and Rae Bareli districts, said the officials. 

Official statements 

Briefing the media about the tragic incidents, Dataganj Sub Divisional Magistrate Dharmendra Kumar said, “Farmers Bablu (30) and Varjeet Yadav (32) were returning home on a motorbike from Ushait Bazar when lightning struck the area along with heavy rain, killing both on the spot.”

In another incident that occurred in Ushai town, an 11-year-old girl, Anhika died when she was returning home from school. The three bodies have been sent for post-mortem, Mr Kumar said. Moreover, an extra-gratia of ₹4 lahk each will be given to the family of the victims. 

Lightning incidents happened in UP’s Rae Bareli 

Further, three people died in Rae Bareli’s Dih, Bhadokhar, and Mill area police station and three others were left injured during the tragic incident. 

As per the police officials, Mohit Pal (14) was grazing cattle in the field near Gendalal village under the Dih police station area when lightning struck and he died on the spot. Jamuna Prasad (38) was working in the field in Purva village in the Mill area police station area when he was struck by lightning. 

Apart from the series of incidents in Rae Bareli, in Sarai Damo village of Bhadokhar police station area, a 38-year-old died due to lightning, while three others were severely injured and sustained burns when they were struck by lightning in the Bareli’s district and were rushed to the hospital for their treatments, the police said. 

Speaking to the media, Jaithara SHO Khushiram said, “In Etah’s Khanjarpur village, Dharmendra (32) died due to lightning when he stepped outside amid heavy rain to fetch fodder for his cattle.” He added that the deceased body has been sent for autopsy.
