The Andhra Pradesh Assembly witnessed a turbulent session on Thursday following the arrest of TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu in connection with the AP Skill Development Corporation scam. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLAs were suspended from the assembly for their attempts to disrupt the proceedings of the house in their quest for a discussion on the matter.

Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram announced the suspension of 14 MLAs of the main opposition party from the house for a day and also three MLAs for the rest of the session.

P Keshav, A Satyaprasad, and Sridhar Reddy were suspended by the Speaker for the remainder of the meeting for disrespecting him and for their involvement in loud sloganeering, as they demanded the release of former CM Chandrababu Naidu, who is currently incarcerated in Rajamahendravaram.

Furthermore, Speaker Sitaram issued a warning to Hindupur MLA and actor Balakrishna for displaying “unacceptable” behavior by twirling his mustache and slapping his thigh in the House. The Speaker decided to excuse the legislator this time, as it was his first instance of such conduct.

Following the disappointing act, there was a heated argument and exchange of words between the ruling party and opposition members. Legislative affairs minister B Rajendranath Reddy responded to the TDP’s petition for adjournment of Naidu’s detention for allegedly misappropriating money from the AP Skill Development Corporation by saying that they may bring up the subject at the meeting of the business advisory council.

Following the announcement of these suspensions and warnings, Mr. Sitaram adjourned the House until Friday.
