A tragic incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, when a truck hit a scooter, killing a couple from Assam’s Siliguri on Wednesday, said the police.

Truck hit scooter kills Assam couple in Ghaziabad

The deceased duo has been identified as Arun Chhetri, (28), and his wife Sunita (27). According to the officials, they were rushed immediately to the district hospital, however, were declared dead by the doctors.

The couple of Nepali origin was currently living in a society in Rajnagar Extension, the police said.

Briefing about the incident, the police said that it occurred at 11.20 am on Wednesday at Omega Chauraha in Rajnagar Extension in the Nandgram police station area.

The entire episode was captured in CCTV, which showed that the scooter suddenly took a right turn, in an attempt to cross the road, and got hit by the truck and the two on the two-wheeler came under the wheels of the truck, said an officer.

Official statements

Speaking to the media, Ritesh Tripathi, ACP Nandgram (officiating), said, “The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination and the truck has been seized by the police. We have informed the family about the accident. Further legal action is being taken.”

Meanwhile, a case will be soon filed against the accused driver under sections of IPC 279 (rash driving) and 304a (causing death by negligence).

Reportedly, the duo, Chhetri and Sunita got married only last year, said the official.

“They did not have any child. They were working in a private firm. The woman was working from home,” said the ACP.
