Cop gets caught

As per reports, Shivesh Sen Gupta, a 50-year-old constable, was assigned to night patrol. He was caught on camera, unknown to the surveillance, stealing an onion sack from a parked car at a Godown in Ward 5 of Dhubri town, Assam. The theft reportedly took place around 3 a.m., when there was no one in the Godown.

Internet catches crime faster than authorities

The Godown’s owners, Mubarak Hussain and Mynal Haque, gave the police access to the CCTV tape. Nonetheless, that clip surfaced on social media and immediately caught people’s attention before the authorities acquired the CCTV evidence.

The official statement is awaited

The top police authorities declined to comment on the event with the media, while several enquiring officers said that Sen Gupta had been detained on suspicion of theft and defaming the police department.

What’s next for the constable?

The constable was transported to Dhubri Sadar police station for questioning following the arrest. Shivesh is speculated to suffer departmental repercussions.
