The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) director of Mumbai, Sameer Wankhede for interrogation for allegedly seeking Rs 25 crore for not naming the son of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan in the Cordelia Cruise ship drug bust case.

As per sources, Sameer Wankhede is likely to appear before the investigating agency on Thursday. The CBI has booked Sameer Wankhede on Tuesday in the case. It is also anticipated that the deal was closed for Rs 18 crore adding that assets to Wankhede were not proportionate to his known sources of income. Out of this, Rs 50 lakh was paid in advance. CBI also confirmed other charges against Wankhede.

The FIR copy submitted by the agency also said that Wankhede was not able to justify the expenses made during his foreign visits. Along with this, he was also involved in selling and purchasing expensive wristwatches with a private entity. Apart from this, CBI also raids at his residence and other premises.

According to the FIR copy submitted by the CBI, the NCB team headed by Sameer Wankhede allowed people who were involved in the possession of drugs.

Whereas, Wankhede justified the stance, saying that he is being punished for being a patriot.

Delhi High Court grants protection from arrest to Sameer Wankhede

As per sources, Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted permission from arrest till May 22 to Sameer Wankhede with liberty to approach the Bombay High Court for further relief. Notably, Wankhede moved the Delhi HC to seek cross Fir claiming that the allegations by NCB against him are all false and misleading.

The bench of Justice Vikas Mahajan has granted protection from arrest for the next five days and has granted liberty to Sameer Wankhede to move the Bombay High Court for relief.

Meanwhile, Wankhede has been summoned by the CBI on Thursday in the case.
