Residents of Dhurwai village in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, were robbed of gold, silver, and cash worth around 60 lakh rupees on Holi night. Eight robbers entered Shravan Kumar Vajpayee’s house while his wife, daughter, and granddaughter were sleeping upstairs.

The robbers tied up Vajpayee, stuffed cloth in his mouth, and threatened to shoot him. They demanded the key to the safe, and after obtaining it, they took one kg of gold jewellery, one kg of silver jewellery, and Rs 4 lakh cash.

The details of the incident

Eyewitnesses claim that the robbers were seen when the gate was opened during the rain. Vajpayee saw a miscreant on the lawn when he went to see the rain. He ran back to the room screaming, but the robbers chased him and pushed open the gate when he tried to latch it from the inside. They tied him up and made him lie face down on the ground while threatening to shoot him.

The robbers tied up the hands of Vajpayee’s wife, Sheela, and demanded that she give them the key to the safe.

After obtaining the key, the robbers searched the house for two and a half hours and took away the jewellery of the wife, daughter-in-law, and daughter, along with cash. Only two of the robbers had masks on their faces, and they spoke the local language. The robbers warned the family not to take any action against them, or else they would kill them.

The aftermath

The family managed to free themselves after the robbers left, and they informed the police. The police force, including the Todi Fatehpur police station and Mauranipur CO, reached the spot soon after the incident was reported. The SSP also visited the robbery scene but has not found any clues that could lead to the robbers’ arrest.

Conclusion

The robbery has shaken the local community and highlighted the need for increased security measures. This incident is a reminder that everyone should take steps to secure their homes and properties to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. The police must also take swift action to catch and bring the culprits to justice.
