In the latest move, Bihar government has approved Rs 309 crore for soil filling and land levelling work, which would facilitate the construction work of the All-India Institute of Medical Science, Darbhanga. As per records, approval for the hospital was given by the Union government in 2020.

Once built, the hospital will be the second one in Bihar after AIIMS, Patna. The construction work will be done at an estimated cost of Rs 1,264. After a grant of Rs 309 crore for the facilitation construction, Additional Chief Secretary, S Siddharth said, “An amount of Rs 309.29 crore for the construction of AIIMS on 189.17 acres of land at Darbhanga was sanctioned by the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The fund will be utilised for soil filling and land levelling work.”

He further added that this will be a major step towards the facilitation of the construction work of AIIMS, Darbhanga.

The new AIIMS is anticipated to be finished within 48 months after the project’s commencement date. It will have 750 beds once it is up and running, along with several medical amenities. The administrative sanction for levelling the 189.7 acres of Darbhanga AIIMS property, which is located on the Ekmi-Shobhan bypass, according to the estimate from Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation. The government has stated that to build the AIIMS, the ground must be levelled.

Know about AIIMS Patna

A public medical college and research institute, the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences Patna (AIIMS Patna), formerly known as the Jaya Prakash Narayan All India Institute of Medical Sciences (JPNAIIMS), is situated in Phulwari Sharif, Patna. It is one of the top medical institutes in the country. After several remarks by the Patna High Court, it began running on September 25, 2012. Under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the institute runs independently. On January 3, 2004, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, the then vice-president, laid the foundation stone for it. It became fully operational in 2018.

When was first AIIMS established?

Notably, the first All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), was established in 1956. Since then, 24 more institutes were announced. As of January 2023, 20 institutes are operating and four more are expected to become operational by 2025. Proposals were made for six more AIIMS. It is considered a pioneer health institution in South Asia.

According to official data as on January 2022, five institutes are under construction, and are expected to be operational by 2025. The establishment of AIIMS has also been proposed for Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Mizoram and Tripura.

Proposal granted for hiring of constables

Additionally, the Bihar cabinet gave its approval to the plan to hire 2,832 constables who have completed Promotional Training Courses (PTC) to conduct investigations at various police stations around the state. For this, amendments have been made to the Bihar Police Manual 1978.

Following the cabinet meeting, Additional Chief Secretary stated that the court was still considering the reservation issue. The promotion process is hampered as a result. There is a lack of inquiry officers as a result of stagnant promotion. In such a circumstance, the government has determined that the PTC exam-passing constables who are about to be promoted should be tasked with doing the case study. Other states can use the same method as well.

DNA labs in Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur

Apart from other approvals, grant for the DNA test labs has also been given by the state cabinet. The cabinet has approved a total of 14 posts for setting up one unit each of DNA branch at Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur in Bihar for incidents related to sexual abuse, identification of deceased, theft-exchange of children and paternity-maternity test.
