Aam Aadmi Party’s MLAs Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj to take oath as Delhi cabinet Ministers today. The decision of taking them into the cabinet came after Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain both resigned from their post on February 28, and Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi forwarded their name as the new ministers to LG VK Saxena of Delhi for their appointment on March 1. The decision came to an end after president of India Draupadi Murmu accepted the resignations of former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and minister Satyendra Jain, both are currently lodged in Tihar jail in connection with the excise policy case.

Reportedly, the swearing-in ceremony of the designated ministers will be held at the auditorium in Raj Niwas, Delhi today at 4 pm. President Murmu on Tuesday appointed Atishi Marlena and Saurabh Bhardwaj as minister in Delhi Cabinet on the advice of Arvind Kejriwal, with effect from the date they will sworn-in as ministers.

In the official statement released by the General Administration department, it is said, “In terms of the notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Ms. Atishi Marlena and Saurabh Bhardwaj have been appointed as ministers in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. In this regard, the General Administration Department is organising the swearing-in ceremony of the ministers designated at 4:00 om on 09.03.2023 in the Auditorium at Raj Niwas, Delhi.”

Atishi Marlena represents the Kalkaji constituency and was a key member of Manish Sisodia’s education department. She also contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls against BJP’s Gautam Gambhir from the East Delhi constituency, but lost. Whereas, Saurabh Bhardwaj, has served as the party’s spokesperson and also served as the vice president of the Delhi Jal Board. The legislators from Greater Kailash was also minister during the first stint of the AAP government.

After the arrest of minister Satyendra Jain, his 7 portfolios were handed over to Manish Sisodia, who was handling his 18 departments at the time of arrest. Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi has now sent Manish Sisodia in judicial custody in Tihar jail till March 20, in connection with the excise duty case. However, Sisodia has denied the charges against him in the case. The former Delhi minister in the bail petition in the trail court stated that there is no fruitful purpose will be served for keeping him in custody as all recoveries have been made in the case.

Currently, the Delhi legislature has 70 members, and the chief minister is one of a maximum of seven ministers who can serve in the Delhi cabinet. Atishi and Bharadwaj’s induction will result in the second reorganisation of the council of ministers since the AAP government took office again in 2020. After social welfare minister Rajendra Pal Gautam resigned in November, Raaj Kumar Anand was first appointed to the government.

Saurabh Bhardwaj is an Indian politician from the Aam Aadmi Party representing the Greater Kailash constituency.
