According to the officials of Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh, a 2-month-old cheetah cub dies. After this, the count of cheetah cubs decreases to three from four after this. the forest department is still engaged in ascertaining the cause of death.

Reportedly, a female cheetah that was bought from Namibia to Kuno National Park, named Jwala, gave birth to four cubs in March, this year.

Notably, three cheetahs have already died at Kuno before this. the continuous death cases of cheetahs are raising questions about the management of the national park.

Prime minister Narendra Modi released the eight cheetahs to Kuno National Park which were brought from Namibia in September, last year. later 12 cheetahs were brought from South Africa in February, this year.

SC ask the Centre to consider shifting cheetahs

Expressing concern over the continued deaths of the cheetahs that were shifted from Namibia and South Africa, Supreme Court has asked the Centre to consider shifting them to Rajasthan. The Supreme Court also asked the Centre to “rise above politics” and think about them.

The bench chaired by Justice BR Gavai, said in their statement, “Don’t bring party politics into this issue. Consider all the available habitats, whatever is suitable for them… Three deaths [of cheetahs] in less than two months is a matter of serious concern. There are opinions of experts and articles in the media. It appears that Kuno is not sufficient for so many cheetahs. There is too much concentration of cheetahs in one place. Why don’t you look for a suitable place in Rajasthan? Merely because Rajasthan is ruled by an opposition party does not mean, you will not consider it.”
