A 60-year-old man was killed after a tanker allegedly hit his car and dragged him a long distance in Navi Mumbai, police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred at 2 p.m. on Saturday near a bridge in Tara village on the Mumbai-Goa highway in Navi Mumbai, according to a Panvel taluka police station official.

According to the woman’s complaint, the victim, Srikant More, of Khalapur in adjoining Raigad district, was driving with his wife in their automobile when the tanker ploughed into them from behind.

When the man got out of his car to find out what happened and was speaking with the tanker driver, the latter moved his vehicle, dragging the victim along with it for some distance.

The tanker driver then allegedly shoved the man onto the road, crushing him to death beneath the vehicle, he claimed.

According to him, the tanker driver fled the scene.

According to the official, the Panvel taluka police registered a FIR against the tanker driver on Saturday based on the victim’s wife’s complaint under relevant articles of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act.
