Three back-to-back have jolted Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur on Friday within the timespan of 16 minutes, officials have confirmed.

The first earthquake occurred at 4:09 AM and measured 4.4 on the Richter scale with a depth of 10 km, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said.

People in the city got out of their apartments and houses, and many took shelter in the nearby parks and open spaces, as per a report by the Times of India.

“Everything was shaking. Also a blast-like sound was witnessed,” Hemant Chaudhary, a resident of the Jhotwara suburb of Jaipur, told TOI.

The second earthquake was witnessed at 4:22 AM, and it had a magnitude of 3.1 on the Richter scale and a depth of 5 km.

The second earthquake woke up those who failed to notice the first earthquake, and the streets were filled with people who walked out of their buildings.

A third earthquake rocked the city at 4:25 AM, measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale and a depth of 10 km.

“I saw the recording of my CCTV installed towards the roadside. We also heard blast-like sounds. People in our locality could not sleep after the earthquake, fearing its recurrence. I have never witnessed three back-to-back earthquakes which had the epicentre Jaipur,” Raj Bansal, a resident of Shyam Nagar, told TOI reporters.

According to the Jaipur control room, no loss of life or property damage was reported in and around Jaipur.
