Amid heavy downpours in several parts of Mumbai, at least two people died after being washed away in a drain as well as traffic snarls, tree fall incidents, and short circuits have also been reported in the city, said the civic and police officials.

2 dead amid heavy downpours in Mumbai

Briefing about the incident, an official said that the deaths of the two people took place in Govandi in the afternoon and the bodies were fished (pulled) out by the fire brigade and police personnel later.

Different places in Mumbai were hit by heavy rainfall

According to the officials, Mumbai’s Chembur area has received 80.04 millimetres of rain throughout the day, while the figure was 79.76 mm for Vikhroli, 61.98 for Sion, 61.68 for Ghatkopar and 61.25 for Matunga. 

Taking notes from the situation, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said 11 trees have fallen due to the rains. Meanwhile, seven incidents of short circuits have been reported till 8 pm. 

The BCM also said the eastern suburbs of the metropolis received 69.86 mm of rain. The rainfall was 73.57 mm in the western suburbs. 

Which routes are safe to take?

Moreover, traffic was diverted to SV Road after the Andheri subway got flooded, while the movement of vehicles was slow on BD Road, in the vicinity of Mahalaxmi Temple and areas like Asalpha, Sakinaka junction, and Gaffar Khan Road Near Worli Sealink, the police said.

Along with this, similar conditions were witnessed in Kurla, Santacruz, and SV road, Incidents of waterlogging were reported from Dadar TT, Sion Road, Tilak Nagar, and Dahisar subway.

To ask traffic police for updates, several netizens took it to Twitter, some of them mentioning traffic snarls near Shreyas cinema in Ghatkopar, on Link Road from Bangur Nagar in Goregaon to Mith Chowki in Malad as well as Pantnagar.
