Current Asian champion Aman Sehrawat won the gold medal at the Zagreb Open 2024 wrestling tournament in Croatia on Wednesday. The 20-year-old defeated the People’s Republic of China’s Zou Wanhao in the men’s 57kg through technical superiority (10-0) to secure India's first medal in the ongoing tournament. In the previous year, Aman Sehrawat secured the bronze medal at the Zagreb Open.

Earlier in the semis, Aman Sehrawat defeated Roberti Dingashvili of Georgia in a dominating game by 11-0 after beating Zane Richards of the USA with a similar margin in the quarter-finals. Indian wrestler began his campaign in the tournament with a 15-4 win over Turkey's Muhammet Karavus in the qualification round.
On the other hand, Olympian Deepak Punia and Yash, the other two wrestlers competing in the multinational tournament, returned empty-handed.
Deepak Punia lost 6-2 against Kazakhstan's Azamat Dauletbekov in the qualification round in the men’s 86kg. However, Kazakhstan's star progressed to the final and handed Deepak Punia a chance to seize the bronze medal via repechage.
