Debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a ton on his Test debut against West Indies, finishing Day 2 of the first Test with an unbeaten score of 143 from 350 balls.

India took the field against West Indies on Thursday for Day 2 at the Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica. The opening partnership of Rohit Sharma (103) and Yashasvi Jaiswal put up a 229-run stand, which is the first time in Test history that India has taken the lead in the first innings without losing a wicket.

Jaiswal’s inspired debut received praise from one of the greats of the game Sachin Tendulkar, who took to Twitter and wrote, “A ‘yashasvi’ [brave] start to your Test career, @ybj_19! Well done. And a splendid century by @ImRo45.”

The master blaster was not the only one to heap praise on the youngster, with his IPL team Rajasthan Royals too wishing him on his achievement.

“Proud of you, Yashasvi Jaiswal!” they posted on Twitter.

Lasith Malinga, who is a part of Rajasthan Royals’ coaching team, tweeted, “A century is good! A century on Test debut is special! Yashasvi Jaiswal is super special! Congratulations on your maiden Test century @ybj_19”

Lucknow Super Giants also put aside their rivalry with Rajasthan Royals to wish the rising star of Indian cricket, tweeting, “You’re following in some great footsteps, Yashasvi!”

India finished Day 2 of the Test match against West Indies with a lead of 162 runs.
