West Indies legendary cricketer Viv Richards said that 'mental strength' is a factor that has propelled Virat Kohli to success and made him a prolific getter. He lauded his recent performance in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

'King Kohli' show in World Cup

Indin's star batter scored runs at a decent pace from 2019 to 2022 as he failed to score any hundreds for three years. 'King Kohli' ended the streak after scoring his first T20 century against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022. Kohli has been in impeccable form since then.

The 35-year-old batter has scored over 500 runs in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, including 2 hundreds. He also levels Sachin Tendulkar's all-time record for most centuries (49).

West Indies great batter Richards who is keeping an eye on Kohli's remarkable run in the ongoing ICC's top event hailed the stalwart batter. In an ICC column, the former West Indian batter said, "Virat is a go-getter and what sets him apart is his mental strength. He will have backed himself throughout, and on the occasions in the past when I have chatted with him and we have discussed things, his mental strength has always been evident. That has been key to pushing him through to how he is playing now. Very few players, or people, are built like that".

Furthermore, he added, "Many people have made comparisons between the two of us over the years, partly because of our shared intensity on the field. I love Virat's enthusiasm - even if he is fielding at long-on or long-off when one of his bowlers hits the pad, he is appealing. He is always in the game and I like individuals like that".

'They can go all the way unbeaten' says Viv

The stalwart cricketer said that India is the favorite and they can lift the topy and remain unbeaten. "I believe they can go all the way unbeaten, which is really something to strive for. There may be some fears of 'we have played so well so far, there may be a bad game around the corner in the semi-final'. They have to try and nullify those and banish any negative thoughts," Richards said.
