In the ongoing match between India and Australia, several records tumbled in the low-scoring game at MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai on Sunday. The 13th edition of the ICC ODI World Cup started on October 5 and will go on till November 19.

Australia’s ace pacer Glenn McGrath leads the pack of bowlers by scalping 71 wickets from just 39 matches in three editions of the World Cup. Earlier, it was Sri Lankan veteran yorker king Lasith Malinga, who holds the record of scalping the fastest to 50 wickets. Lasith Malinga took 50 wickets in just 25 innings.

However, Mitchell Starc shattered the Sri Lankan great’s record by reaching the 50 wickets mark in just 19 innings.

Starc, who is playing his third ODI World Cup, achieved this feat after dismissing Ishan Kishan for a golden duck in Chennai.

Mitchell Starc scalped 50 wickets in just 941 balls in the World Cup. Former Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga had taken 50 wickets in 1187 balls.

Apart from this, former fast bowler of the Kangaroo team Glenn McGrath achieved the feat of taking 50 wickets in 1540 balls. After this, Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka had shown the way to the pavilion to 50 players in 1562 balls and Wasim Akram of Pakistan had shown the way to the pavilion in 1748 balls.
