In the ongoing match between Australia and Sri Lanka in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Sri Lankan skipper Kusal Mendis won the toss and elected to bat first.

Sri Lanka 84/0 in 15 overs

Sri Lankan openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera have started the proceedings well and scored 51 runs without losing any wickets in the powerplay. Australian bowlers have failed to create any opportunities to scalp wickets. Sri Lanka are 84/0 in 15 overs.

Both teams are at the bottom of the points table and have yet to win a match in the top global ODI event. Australia has lost to India and South Africa while Sri Lanka has lost against South Africa and Pakistan.

Chamika, Lahiru Kumara comes in playing XI

He said after the toss, “We will bat first, the wicket is looking good and it might turn a bit in the second half. We have two changes. Dasun and Matheesha are not playing and Chamika and Lahiru Kumara are playing. Unfortunately, Dasun is not playing, a really important match today. The par score might be 280-300, hopefully, we can manage that”.

Australia’s skipper Pat Cummins said at the toss that the team has worked on areas it needs to sharpen up. “We probably would have batted as well but do not think it is too big a difference. The last two days we had training sessions and everyone is very clear on quite a few areas we need to sharpen up. We are playing the same team”.
