Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan lauded India’s former captain and star batter Virat Kohli and said that he is probably the best batter in the modern era of cricket.

The statement comes a day before the match between Bangladesh and India at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Thursday.

Unbeaten India

The hosts, ‘Men in Blue’ have won all three of their matches and sitting on top of the points table, while Bangladesh has won one of three matches and sits in 7th position.

Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al-Hasan spoke on the value of Virat Kohli’s wicket. Ahead of their clash against Men in Blue, Shakib highlighted that he had dismissed Virat five times in international cricket and wishes to dismiss him again.

‘He’s probably best batter in modern era’, says Shakib

Talking to Star Sports, Shakib said, “He’s a special batsman, probably the best batsman in the modern era. I think I’m lucky to get him out 5 times. Of course, it will give me great pleasure, taking his wicket”.

Meanwhile, The former India skipper, Virat Kohli also praised experienced Shakib for his exceptional bowling skills calling him a valued asset. Kohli spoke ahead of their match at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Virat laudes Bangladesh’s skipper

Virat Kohli told Star Sports, “Over the years, I’ve played a lot against him. He’s got amazing control. He’s a very experienced bowler. He bowls very well with the new ball, knows how to deceive the batsman, and is also very economical. You have to play your best against all these bowlers, and if you aren’t able to, these bowlers are able to create pressure and increase the chances of getting you out”.

He also pointed out that in a big tournament like the World Cup, there are no weak teams. He added, “Whenever you start focusing only on bigger teams, an upset happens”.
