New Zealand made it two out of two in the sixth match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, defeating Netherlands by the margins of 99 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday.

Santner’s magical spell

Chasing a target of 323 runs, the Dutch were bowled out for just 223 runs in 46.3 overs. Spinner Mitchell Santner showed his class and scalped a five-wicket haul for New Zealand. While experienced pacer Matt Henry bagged a three-wicket haul to wrap up the game. Colin Ackermann was the top scorer for the Netherlands scoring 69 runs off 73 balls.

Almost all the batters from Netherlands got off to a good start but eventually failed to convert it into big innings. Only skipper Scott Edwards showed some resilience but got dismissed by Mitchell Santner’s brilliance. He scored 30 off 27 runs.

New Zealand’s innings

Earlier in the day, Netherlands’ skipper Scott Edwards won the toss and invited New Zealand to bat first. The Dutch batters started proceedings well by bowling a couple of maiden overs.

The Kiwi’s openers responded well adding 67 runs for the first wicket. Roelof van der Merwe broke the partnership and provided a much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Devon Conway on 32. Will Young continued with the allrounder Rachin Ravindra and added 84 runs for the second wicket before getting dismissed by Paul van Meekeren for 70 runs.

Rachin Ravindra too completed his half-century before falling to Aryan Dutt, while Daryl Mitchell scored 48 before getting dismissed by Paul van Meekeren. New Zealand’s skipper Tom Latham scored 53 runs before the innings finally concluded with Mitchell Santner producing a late blitz and his cameo remained unbeaten on 36 runs, propelling New Zealand’s total to 322.

Paul van Meekeren, Aryan Dutt, and Roelof van der Merwe added two wickets each to their accounts while allrounder Bas de Leede claimed the wicket of Glenn Phillips.
