World Cup 2023 SA vs AUS: David Millar's brilliant century has helped South Africa to post a competitive total of 212 in 49.3 overs in the second semi-finals of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Thursday. The crucial innings came as the top order 'choked' in the knockouts at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Proteas man lost its top 4 batters in just 12 overs of the innings.

Earlier, South Africa's skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided to bat first against Pat Cummins' men in the must-win game. The decision went horribly wrong as the Australian pacers dismissed three batters in the first mandatory powerplay.

Playing his last tournament Quinton de Kock failed to fire and got dismmised after adding just 3 runs to his account. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins scalp two wickets each to dismiss the top order of South Africa. The Proteas men were reduced to 24/4 in 11.5 overs.

David Miller comes to rescue

Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller came to rescue the South African sinking ship and added 95 runs off 113 deliveries. However, the partnership was broken in an unexpected manner as the part-time bowler Travis Head dismissed Klaasen. He fell three runs short of his half-century. The part-timer went to dismiss Marco Jansen, injecting another big blow to the Proteas hopes.

David Miller along with Gerald Coetzee added 53 runs to provide a bit of stability to the innings while the situation couldn't last longer as Australia's skipper dismissed Coetzee. David Miller went on to complete his blazing century which came in 116 deliveries including eight boundaries and five maximums.

Pacers on top

Australian speedsters were on top of the game as Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins scalped three wickets each while Josh Hazlewood claimed two. Part-timer Travis Head got two crucial wickets as he received great help from the pitch.
