The heavy rain at Eden Gardens in Kolkata has stopped the play of the second semi-final of the World Cup 2023. Australia dented South Africa's innings early in the powerplay of the second semi-final in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Thursday. The Australian speedster Mitchell Starc injected the first blow by dismissing Temba Bavuma in the very first over of the innings. Bavuma was dismissed for a duck as he poked the length ball by introducing his edge.

The aggressor of the tournament, Quinton de Kock failed to fire in the must-win game. QDK was under pressure as played numerous dot balls after the departure of Bavuma. He threw his wicket away in the sixth over of the innings as the Protese opener misused the heroic off Josh Hazlewood's delivery and got caught by Pat Cummins. South Africa was 8/2 in 5.4 overs.

Earlier, South Africa's skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided to bat first in the second encounter of the semis.
