The Australian opening pair of David Warner and Travis Head provided a brisk start, setting the tone of the game. The duo added 60 runs for the first wicket in the first six overs of the innings. The partnership was broken by Aiden Markram who bowled David Warner in the very first ball of his spell. Warner scored 29 runs off just 18 deliveries including a boundary and four maximums. Kagiso Rabada dismissed Mitchell Marsh for a six-ball duck in the next over providing the much-needed comeback for the Proteas men. The counterattack from Travis Head helped Australia to score 74 runs in the first mandatory powerplay.

South Africa made a comeback as Travis Head was dismissed by Keshav Maharaj after his brisk fifty. He scored 62 runs off 48 deliveries in nine boundaries and two maximums.
South African bowlers kept them in the hunt by scalping wickets at regular intervals. However, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc held their nerves and secured the final's birth by a three-wicket victory over the Proteas men.

Gerald Coetzee bowled his heart out by scalping two wickets but failed eventually to ensure the win.
South Africa's skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided to bat first against Pat Cummins' men in the must-win game. The decision went horribly wrong as the Australian pacers dismissed three batters in the first mandatory powerplay.
