The 9th match of the World Cup 2023 is being played between India and Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has made a mockery of Aganistan’s bowling in the ongoing ICC ODI Cricket World Cup on Wednesday.

The Indian opener smashed a blazing hundred to register several records to his name. His brilliant hundred came in just 63 deliveries.

Six machine Hitman

Indian skipper surpassed West Indies legendary explosive batter Chris Gayle’s all-time record to top the list of batters with the most number of sixes in international cricket across all formats.

Rohit hits three massive sixes to take his tally to 554 to go past the mammoth tally of Gayle’s 553 sixes in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is combined.Former India skipper MS Dhoni is the only other Indian player in the Top-10 list of batters hitting the most number of sixes as he has smashed 359 sixes.

Fastest Indian to smash century in ODI World Cup

Rohit Sharma became the fastest Indian batter to smash a century in the ODI World Cup on just 63 deliveries. Earlier, Indian legendary batter Kapil Dev had a record in his name, he smashed a World Cup century in 72 balls.

Most centuries in ODI World Cup

The 36-year-old batter surpassed the records of legendary batters including Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev with a blazing century against Afghanistan. Rohit Sharma has completed 7 centuries in the ICC World Cup which puts him at the top of the list of batters with the highest number of centuries in the World Cup.

Sachin Tendulkar along with Rohit Sharma with 6 centuries stood on a tie earlier. But today’s fiery innings against Afghanistan to smash a beautiful century propelled Rohit to the top od the tally.

Rohit Sharma now stands on top with 7 centuries in the list of most ICC World Cup 100s. Legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar is on second spot with 6 centuries, and Sri Lanka’s left-handed Kumar Sangakkara is on third with 5 centuries. Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting is in fourth place with 5 centuries and his compatriot David Warner is in 5th spot with 4 centuries in the ICC World Cup.

Second batter with most number of centuries as opener

Hitman also became the second batter after master blaster with the most centuries as an opener. India’s right-handed opener Sachin Tendulkar leads the tally with 45 centuries, while Rohit stands in second spot with 27 centuries. Sri Lanka’s explosive batter Sanath Jayasuriya is in the third spot with 28 centuries.
