In the ongoing clash between Pakistan and South Africa in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, the fighting fifties from Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel helped Pakistan to post 270 in 46.4 overs at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.

Pakistani skipper Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bat first in the twenty-sixth game of the ongoing multinational event. The decision proved to be horribly wrong as South African pacer Marco Jansen injected two quick blows by dismissing Abdullah Shafique (9) and Imam-ul-Haq (12) in the mandatory first powerplay, reducing the team total to 38/2 in 6.3 overs. Pakistan scored 58 runs in the powerplay. Then Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan added 48 runs off 56 deliveries for the third wicket. Tabraiz Shamsi provided the breakthrough by removing Rizwan, who scored 31 off 27 deliveries.
