Afghanistan has created histrory by betaing Pakistan by 8 wickets for first time in a nail-biter clash in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday. 'Men in Green' posted 282/7 in 50 overs helped by brilliant half-centuries from Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique.

Chasing the target of 283 against Pakistan, Afghan openers gave a perfect start by adding 60 runs in the powerplay. Pakistani bowlers failed to scalp wickets in the first 20 overs. As the match proceeded the pitch started to get slower. The opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran added 130 runs for the first wicket. Both batters reached their respective half-centuries in the process before the Gurbaz was dismissed by Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Rahmat Shah (77) and Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (48) took the innings further writting the script of yet another win for Afganistan. 

Pakistan had a horrific day in field by dropping catches on crucial occasions and misfielded allowing the opponent to take advantage.

Earlier, Pakistan chose to bat first and posted a total of 282 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Captain Babar Azam was the top scorer with 74 runs from 92 deliveries, while opener Abdullah Shafique contributed 58 runs. Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed added 40 runs each lower down the order. 

Afghan bowler Noor Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers, who claimed 3 wickets for 49 runs, while Naveen-ul-Haq also made a notable contribution by scalping 2 wickets for 52 runs.
