Despite moments when it appeared that Afghanistan would claim the victory, Maxwell's tenacity at the crease turned the game around.

Afghanistan Sets a New Record

When Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat against Australia, their batsmen took charge at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, aggressively amassing a formidable total of 291 runs. This achievement marked Afghanistan's highest-ever total in World Cup history. Previously, their best record was 288, which they achieved during the 2019 World Cup.

Ibrahim Zadran's Century

Ibrahim Zadran showcased exceptional batting prowess, crafting an unbeaten century of 129 runs for Afghanistan. Zadran's remarkable innings spanned 143 balls and featured 8 fours and three sixes. Adding to Afghanistan's impressive total, Rashid Khan, who came in at number 7, contributed 35 runs from just 18 balls. The combined efforts of these two talented batsmen propelled Afghanistan to their highest World Cup total in history.
