World Cup 2023 IND vs SL: Kohli, Gill miss century mark, leaves fans in distress

Indian fans faced a heartbreak as 'King Kohli' missed out on another century against Sri Lanka in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Thursday. This is the second instance that Virat has missed his century. Earlier, Virat Kohli missed out on his century against the arch-rivals New Zealand by just 5 runs. 

The 34-year-old batter holds the second spot with 48 centuries in the all-time record of 'Most ODI Hundreds'.

Virat was dismissed by Dilshan Madushanka before scoring 88 runs off 94 deliveries in the 33rd game of the tournament at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Shubman's superb knock

India's young sensation Shubman Gill also missed out on his well-deserved century by just 8 runs. India lost the wicket the skipper Rohit Sharma early was dismissed in the very first over of the innings. Shubman Gill coupled with Virat Kohli added a huge 189-run partnership off 179 deliveries before the former batter was dismissed by Dilshan Madushanka. Shubman Gill scored 92 runs off 92 deliveries including 11 boundaries and 2 maximums. 

Fiery spell from Madushanka

The young speedster of Sri Lanka Dilshan Madushanka was the only bowler who created some trouble for Indian batters. He scalped three wickets. India crossed the 200-run mark in the 33rd over. India is 201/3 in 33 over. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are hustling in the middle. 

Earlier, Sri Lanka's skipper Kusal Mendis won the toss and opted to bowl first. India didn't make any change in playing XI combination, while, Sri Lanka made one change as Dushan Hemantha replaced allrounder Dhananjaya de Silva.
