In the ongoing high-octane game, between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, Babar Azam, Pakistan’s skipper struck his maiden ODI fifty against India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

Fifty for Babar Azam

Babar Azam walked in at number three after the dismissal of Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique. He reached his half-century off 57 deliveries against India and ended his five-match streak without a fifty-plus score. Eventually, Babar was clean-bowled by Siraj for 50 runs off 58 deliveries. He added 82 runs partnership with Muhammad Rizwan for the third wicket.

Bumrah-Kuldeep leads middle order collapse

After the dismissal of Babar Azam, Pakistani wickets fell like a deck of cards. Left Handed Bat batter Saud Shakeel got dismissed by the chinamen bowler Kuldeep Yadav, who scored 6 runs in his short stay. Kuldeep scalped the wicket of experienced batter Iftikhar Ahmed in the same over when Iftikhar tried to play a sweep shot and the ball took a faint edge and crashed the leg stump, sinking the Pakistani innings for 166runs on the loss of five wickets in 33 overs.

In the very next over, Jasprit Bumrah bowled Mohammad Rizwan as India got a third wicket in the span of 11 balls sicking further Pakistan’s innings. Mohammad Rizwan was foxed by a slower off-cutter, who came back in after beating the bat and hitting the stumps. Rizwan got dismissed just short of his fifty and scored 49 runs including seven boundaries.

Pakistan sinks further

Pakistan’s hopes were shattered as Shadab Khan was dismissed in the same fashion as the Rizwan. Jasprit Bumrah bowled another slower off-cutter which uprooted the stumps reducing Pakistan to 171 runs on the loss of seven wickets in 35.2 overs.

The next two wickets came in quick succession as Mohammad Nawaz and Hasan Ali were dismissed by Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja.
