Rohit Sharma will be carrying the expectation of 1.4 billion people when his team kickstarts its high-stakes World Cup campaign against the five-time champion Australia in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Sunday.

Top-ranked India versus their arch-rivals Australia looks promising to be a mouth-watering contest. Earlier, both teams faced each other in a match ODI series, which India won by 2-1 without their big players. India’s regular skipper Rohit Sharma, star batter Virat Kohli, ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj were rested for the first two matches of the series.

India’s in-form pace battery comprising of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj is expected to lead the bowling charge on Sunday, along with the chinaman wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav and left-arm allrounder Ravindra Jadeja as the favorites choices. All-rounder Hardik Pandya gives the luxury to the Indian side to carry three pacers. It’ll be a good headache for the team management and skipper to opt for three genuine pacers or three spinners.

Indian batting looks promising with one of the superstars of world cricket. ‘King Kohli’ will be eying to break Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of ODI centuries, on the other hand, skipper Rohit Sharma will be looking to make up for missing out on the World Cup 2011.

However, the middle order will be in focus, as it has witnessed several vulnerabilities after the collapse of the top order. The return of KL Rahul, who has a good reputation as the no. 5 batter has made the situation stable.

However, the Australian side has a vast experience of Indian conditions, and almost all of them have participated in the Indian Premier League now and then. David Warner, Steve Smith, Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Cameron Green, and Glenn Maxwell spend a lot of time playing on Indian soil. Even, Indian conditions suit well to the explosive batter David Warner, who holds a tremendous record in India.

While, the formidable trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc will lead Australia’s pace attack, with wrist-spinner Adam Zampa, who tasted success on Indian soil scalping 27 wickets in just 16 matches at an average of 30.77.

On Saturday, Australia skipper Pat Cummins said that, unlike the earlier ultra-aggressive style Australian sides, his team is content to go about their game ‘quietly’.
