India's stalwart speedster Mohammed Shami became the first Indian bowler to scalp 50 wickets in World Cups on Wednesday. He achieved the milestone in just 17 innings of the World Cups. The remarkable landmark came in the highly anticipated clash against New Zealand when he dismissed New Zealand's skipper Kane Williamson in the semi-final of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Mohammed Shami also became the fastest bowler in the world to scalp 50 wickets in just 17 innings.
Shami is the current leading wicket-taker for India in World Cups. Legendary left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan holds the second spot for leading wicket-takers in World Cups for India with 44 scalps. Zaheer achieved this feat in 33 outings. J Srinath has claimed the same number of wickets in 33 innings and holds the third spot in the list.
Jasprit Bumrah stands in the fourth position with 35 scalps in 19 innings. The spin magician Anil Kumble is in the fifth spot with 31 scalps in 18 innings of World Cups.
