World Cup 2023 IND vs NZ: The iconic Wankhede Stadium witnessed history being rewritten as India's stalwart batter Virat Kohli hammered his 50th ODI ton against New Zealand in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Wednesday.

India posted a mammoth target of 398 against the Blackcaps helped by brilliant tons from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. 

Iyer's fiery knock

Shreyas Iyer hammered his 5th overall ton and second in the World Cups to propel India's total to 397/4 in 50 overs at Wankhede. The blitzing knock came in the crucial situation as he reached the century mark off just 67 deliveries including three boundaries and 8 maximums to reach the landmark. He was dismissed on 105. 

'King Kohli' rewrites history

India's stalwart batter Virat Kohli has created history by hitting his 50th ton in the first semi-final in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. 'King Kohli' surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's all-time record of most centuries in One Day Internationals (ODI). Kohli hammered his 50th hundred off 106 delivery including eight boundaries and one maximum. 

Virat Kohli reached the landmark at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in just 279 innings while Sachin Tendulkar accomplished 49 tons off 463 innings. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma stands at the third position in the record book of most ODI centuries'  by hammering 31 hundreds in the format.

Rohit's fiery start

Earlier, Rohit Sharma gave a brisk start to Indai after opting to bat first. The Indian skipper was breathing fire at his home ground, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. 'Hitman' smashed 47 runs off 29 deliveries including four boundaries and four maximums in the highly anticipated match as India is eyeing to recover from the knockout woes in ICC tournaments against the Blackcaps. India scored 84 runs in the first mandatory powerplay.
