World Cup 2023 IND vs NZ: India breaks the New Zealand jinx in the knockouts of the ICC events and stormed into the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Wednesday. Chasing the mammoth target of 398, New Zealand was bundled out for 327 in 48.5 overs at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.  

Shami creates history

Mohammed Shami was on fire as the speedster claimed seven-wicket haul in the World Cup 2023. Shami became the fastest bowler in the World to scalp 50 wickets. He also became the first Indian bowler to scalp 50 wickets in World Cups. 

Mohammed Shami produced another clinical performance with the ball and scalped seven wickets. The pacer provided the breakthrough with his first ball of the game and went on to dismiss Rachin Ravindra in his very next over. 

After the departure of the openers, New Zealand's skipper Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell then re-established the innings and added a record partnership of 181 runs off 149 deliveries for the third wicket. Shami injected another blow by dismissing Williamson after his fifty.

Daryl Mitchell's ton goes in vain

Daryl Mitchell was the standout batter for New Zealand as the batter smashed another century against India in the ongoing World Cup. 

As the game progressed, Shami provided another blow by trapping Tom Latham LBW for 0(2).  Mitchell, who had already slammed a hundred, then held the fort with Glenn Phillips and added 75 runs for the fifth wicket. Bumrah dismissed Phillips for 41 in the 43rd over to ensure the victory and Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Mark Chapman in the next over.

Shami then dented Blackcaps' hopes completely as he dismissed Daryl Mitchell for 134 off 119 deliveries in the 46th over. Mitchell's brilliant innings featured nine boundaries and seven maximums. Shami bundled out the innings by scalping the last couple of wickets. 

India dominates the semis

Earlier in the innings India made a mockery of the New Zealand bowling attack after batting first in the semi-final as centuries from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer propelled the team to an imposing 397/4 in Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. 

'King Kohli' rewrites history

'King Kohli' surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's all-time record of most centuries in One Day Internationals (ODI). Kohli hammered his 50th hundred off 106 delivery including eight boundaries and one maximum.

 

Virat Kohli reached the landmark at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in just 279 innings while Sachin Tendulkar accomplished 49 tons off 463 innings. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma stands at the third position in the record book of most ODI centuries' by hammering 31 hundreds in the format.
