Afghanistan has posted a defendable total of 272 runs after Hashmatullah Shahidi’s brilliant 80-run knock against India in the ninth match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidia won the toss and opted to bat first against India in the ninth game of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, Delhi.

The Afghans started impressively by hitting boundaries regularly. Afghanistan scored a total of 272 runs in 50 overs and lost 8 wickets. Opner batter Ibrahim Zadran was the first batter to get dismissed in the powerplay by Jasprit Bumrah.

Agfanistan’s skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai had been the key players in Afghanistan’s innings. Hashmatullah Shahidi was the top scorer for Afghans, scoring 80 runs from 88 deliveries including 8 fours and a sixerr before getting dismissed while attempting a reverse sweep off Kuldeep Yadav.

Azmatullah Omarzai scored 62 runs from 69 balls which included 2 fours and 4 sixes before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya.

Jasprit Bumrah was the top wicket-taker and most economical bowler for India, who gave away just 39 runs in a 10 overs spell and struck 4 wickets. No. 2 ODI bowler Mohammed Siraj looked off-color today and failed to get any wickets and has conceded 76 runs in 9 overs.

India’s Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav scalped one wicket each while spinner Ravindra Jadeja failed to add his name to the wicket-taker’s tally. Now, India requires 273 runs in 50 overs at 5.46 runs per over to secure their second win in the World Cup campaign.
